In a November 16, 1844 letter to Elizabeth Donelson, former President Andrew Jackson writes that the bill of Major Andrew Jackson Donelson, Jackson's adopted nephew and private secretary, has been paid and cancelled.

This collection includes a two-page handwritten letter from Andrew Jackson to George Graham. The letter is dated May 13, 1817 and is noted as being written from the Division of the South headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee. A typed transcription is also included.

This collection contains the transcription of a letter written to President James Monroe by General Andrew Jackson in January of 1815. The document contains Jackson's description of the Battle of New Orleans, including Jackson's narrative timeline, the number of dead and wounded (on both sides), and atmosphere of the battle. The original letter was written in 1815, but it is unknown when this copy was transcribed.

Four page personal correspondence between Andrew Johnson and his son, Robert Johnson, dated February 7, 1859 from Washington City.

In a July 10, 1845, letter to his son-in-law David T. Patterson, Andrew Johnson, then serving in the U.S. House of Representatives, describes the political scene in East Tennessee at the time. He details stump speeches of Aaron Venable Brown and Ephraim Foster, candidates for governor who were appearing in a joint canvass. Additionally, Johnson speaks of William B. Carter, a Whig congressman, and Robert W. Powell, the incumbent Democratic senator.

Andrew Johnson wrote this letter to E. M. Stanton while the latter was serving as Secretary of War in order to commend his friend Edward Hazzard East to him.

This collection includes two letters written by Andrew Johnson. The letters are dated March 3, 1863 and February 4, 1865 and are written from Nashville, Tennessee.

Benjamin F. Wright wrote this letter describing encounters with Confederate sharpshooters near Bridgeport, Tennessee on March 12, 1864.

This Civil War letter was written by Benton L. Thompson of the Union Army, and contains general details of his journey to Knoxville, Tennessee by railway and by foot for the Siege of Knoxville.

In it, he discusses camp life, foraging in the countryside, breakdowns in discipline, and an incident in which a Union soldier was hanged for stealing from Confederate farmers.

C. Perry Goodrich of the 1st Wisconsin Cavalry wrote this letter from a camp near Kingston, Tennessee on December 12, 1863. In it, he discusses Longstreet's clash with Burnside in the Knoxville campaign and mentions rumors that are circulating, including one stating that Gen. Crook with the 2nd Div. Cav. has defeated the Rebel Gen. Wheeler.
