A single notebook of Charles Ready's, titled A Digest of all the Cases Reported in Tennessee and of the Cases Contained in Haywood's North Carolina Reports and dated October 10, 1827, in which he has handwritten legal information gleaned from cases reported in Tennessee as well as reports from North Carolina by John Haywood. The information is arranged by topic and the topics are listed alphabetically.

This March 16, 1790, summons informs Benjamin Lewis of Mecklenburg County, NC, of an upcoming meeting where he may cross examine witnesses in the case of Hezekiah Balch vs. P. Benjamin Lewis. A notice on the verso confirms that the message was conveyed to Lewis and his wife.

James Scott Petition

Identifier: MS-1555

In this petition to the Knox County Court, James Scott explains how he came to be in debt to Douglas Olliver, declares that he has attempted to repay this obligation, and accuses Olliver of refusing to accept his payment in order to extract a larger settlement. Scott asks that the relevant paperwork be collected and examined at the court's next session so that right may be done. The document is also signed by the court's clerk, Charles McClung.

J.C. Steger vs. John M. Lea Court Verdict

Abstract This broadside reprints the court’s verdict against Woods, Yeatman, and Company and lays out the process for liquidating the assets of the Cumberland Iron Works by its trustee, J.C. Steger, in order to pay any debts. He will sell land north of the Cumberland River; mules and other livestock; scrap and pig iron; and all bills, notes, and accounts. Joseph McDowell Deposition

Identifier: MS-2416

In a deposition in Burke County, NC, court, dated March 4, 1789, Joseph McDowell testifies that James Cook told him that David Nelson had taken a gun and an otter skin shot pouch from him in 1780. While Cook has attempted to get payment from Nelson, Nelson would not pay. The testimony notes that this took place shortly before the action at King's Mountain.
