Papers of World War II veteran Joseph B. Boyd, including publications and photocopies of articles. Publications are from 1995 and include 1st Fighter News, WWII Nightfighters Newsletter, and The Flying Sergeant. Photocopied articles include information about Boyd's service.

The Boyd Letters contains six letters written by Joseph E. Boyd of the 115th Illinois Volunteer Infantry between September 1862 and January 1864. These letters describe Union military camp conditions, the environment of Tennessee, Union soldiers' viewpoints regarding the war and Confederates, battles and military operations in Middle and East Tennessee, and the family concerns of Union soldiers.

This collection contains the official and personal documents of Joseph C. Read through his Union Army military career in the Civil War and subsequent retirement in Fernandina, Florida. Read, during the war, rose from the rank of Sergeant to Brevet Colonel, supplied General Sherman’s siege of Atlanta, as well as partook in many of the major battles in the South during the Civil War.

This collection houses a diary documenting Josiah Reed's service in the Civil War, a letter requesting an additional bounty for his service, and a sermon that was delivered at his burial.

This collection contains the diary/scrapbook of Julius E. Thomas, a soldier with Company F of the 1st Tennessee Cavalry (Union) during the Civil War. The diary entries span from June 1, 1863 through August 4, 1864, and describe Thomas' day-to-day activities as well as his travels thoughout the state of Tennessee. In the entries from early 1864, he describes his movements in East Tennessee, mentioning Strawberry Plains, Morristown, Sevierville, and Dandridge.

This collection contains the diary and daybook of Union soldier Julius E. Thomas, 2nd Sergeant and Chief Bugler of Company F, 1st Tennessee Cavalry. Entries range from August 5, 1864 through April 5, 1865. Thomas writes about the movement of his company throughout Tennessee. Additionally, the entries cover topics such as supplies, battles, sermons, and Thomas’s feelings about being a soldier.

This collection features military records from Kenneth L. Ross's service during World War II. Also included is correspondence during this time. Kenneth L. Ross served in the United States Air Forces as a pilot and aerial bomber.

In this letter written on November 7, 1863, Union soldier L. T. Mathews tells his wife of his homesickness and of how the war changes a soldier's thoughts and behaviors.

This collection consists primarily of two sections of a muster roll for Company K of the 2nd Regiment of the East Tennessee Infantry Volunteers (USA) and Lazarus Johnson's discharge and pension papers. Also included is Johnson's affidavit regarding Calloway W. Catlett's pension claim.

This collection contains a photocopy of the book, Move Out, Verify: The Combat Story of the 743rd Tank Battalion by Wayne Robinson.

This collection houses three orders and one letter concerning the operations of the 69th Ohio Infantry during 1862.

This collection includes a photocopy of a handwritten letter written to Lewis B. Fox during World War II. The letter, penned by “Mrs. O.J. Brown” of Knoxville, Tennessee, comments on Fox’s time with Brown’s son in a hospital during the war. Also included is a copy of a 1975 article on Fox’s life and death.

In this letter, Lide Bostwick discusses life on the northern home front during the Civil War. She mentions illnesses and deaths in the family (including the death of her brother Tip at the Battle of Stones River), her concerns for family and friends in the military, and the harm that "northern traitors" are causing.

The material in this collection documents the World War II military service of Lloyd Hamilton Boyd. Included are approximately 50 letters written from Boyd to members of his family in North Carolina; these were written while Boyd was stationed at Camp Cooke in California as well as overseas in the European Theatre of War (including from England, France, Belgium, and Germany). Also included are ration books, unused V-mail sheets, copies of newspaper clippings, and some memorabilia.

This collection consists of a transcript of an interview with Lonas Tarr by G. Kurt Piehler and Kathryn P. O'Donnell conducted on March 7, 2003 in Knoxville, Tennessee as part of the Center for the Study of War and Society's Veteran's Oral History Project. Tarr speaks of his childhood in Jefferson City, his experiences in the Air Force during World War II, and his postwar life working as an American Airlines pilot in Europe.

The Lt. John B. Routien Papers, 1944-1953, contains papers related to Routien's service in the U. S. Army. Included are promotion records, records of leave, health records, and reassignments.

In this collection, M. E. Springer discusses his life as a non-combat soldier in World War II and his postwar work conducting soil surveys in Japan.
