Abstract

This collection consists of four account books dated from 1837 July 25 - 1867 May 24. One account book lists a categorized inventory of items sold and the total monetary amount per category. The three other account books list the name of the purchaser as well as the items sold immediately beneath each name. The phrase “Dandridge Tennessee” appears at the top of three of the account books which seems to indicate that the account books originated from Dandridge, Tennessee.

This collection consists of two letters written by Adam Loy of the 89th Indiana Infantry to his wife Sarah Loy. The first letter is written from Memphis, Tennessee and is dated May 21, 1863. The second letter is dated May 23. Loy writes of his experiences in the infantry.

A handwritten letter and envelope from Addie Pike of Salem, Massachusetts, to her brother Edwin R. Pike of Nashville, Tennessee, dated October 26, 1864. In the letter Addie discusses their father and his health, their sister, and observing rallies for Abraham Lincoln and "little Mac" George B. McClellan.

Adna Anderson Letters

Abstract

This collection consists of a Civil War letter and document written to B.D. Parkinson from Adna Anderson. The letter appointed Parkinson as Engineer of Repairs, United States Military Railroads, Military Division of the Mississippi. The document, titled Special Order No. 9., officially recognizes the appointment. Anderson assisted the North during the Civil War as chief superintendent and engineer of all the military railroads.
