Abstract This collection consists of 55 photographs of African-Americans in the Knoxville, Tenn. area during the early 20th century. Many are of Dr. Charles S. Boyd, his dental office, and his family. Others include other individual or group portraits and school photographs. Abstract F. H. Knapp wrote this letter to his friend D. G. Broom in Natchez, Mississippi from Nashville, Tennessee on July 15, 1842. Although he finds that the hard times are felt [here] even more than in Mississippi, he has enjoyed his time in Tennessee. Knapp does not believe that he will have enough work to keep him busy for more than another month, after which he will go either to Baltimore or to North Carolina.
