This collection documents the life and work of Arthur Randolph Shields. It contains slide photography of the Great Smoky Mountains region and the Arizona desert, professional association membership information, professional research, writing and publications proofs, Shields family genealogical information, and personal correspondence.

This collection contains oral histories about the Great Smoky Mountains National Park through interviews of people who lived in the area in the early twentieth century. These interviews were conducted by students from the University of Tennessee in Anthropology and Appalachian Folklore classes.
