Mary Jane Johnston Reynolds Letters

Abstract This collection consists of photocopies of transcriptions of letters from Mary Jane Johnston Reynolds to her husband, Simeon Reynolds, who was serving with the Confederate 62nd Regiment of the Tennessee Mounted Infantry. At the time these letters were written, Mary Jane was living with her parents on the Johnston plantation in Loudon, Tennessee. Milburn Divine Letter to LaReine Warden Clayton and And This Is Our Heritage Chapters

In this letter to LaReine Clayton, Milburn Divine provides Clayton with information about an inn that her aunt and uncle, Robert and Elizabeth Evans, once operated and discusses another inn in Rheatown, Tennessee. Divine includes photocopies of several chapters of a book by Esther Moreland Leithold entitled And This Is Our Heritage (1944) regarding the Evans' inn.

Noble B. Wiggins Letter

A letter written by Corporal Noble B. Wiggins on August 7, 1862 at the 42nd Ohio Infantry's Camp Virginia, located outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He describes foraging expeditions and his company's acquisition of mules, horses, and food as well as their losses in men.

Riedl Collection includes research files on such topics as architecture, clothing and costume, cockfighting, food and cooking, games and recreation, legends, medicines and remedies, music, quilting, snake handling, and customs pertaining to marriage, divorce, death and burial.
