T. P. Bateman Letter

Abstract

This letter from Lieutenant Colonel T. P. Bateman of Centerville, Tennessee was sent to D. Cambell and E. Cook on April 6, 1861 concerning the appointment of his fellow townsman Colonel Nunelly as postmaster of the town of Centreville, Tenn. The appointment is dependent on the removal of Secesh sympathizer and current postmaster Major Pleasant Hornbeak.

This collection consists of a bound, handwritten, and illustrated memoir, written by W. J. Worsham, recording the history of the Old 19th Tennessee Regiment of the Confederate States of America, which was based in Knoxville, Tennessee. Thomas A. Walker Letter

Thomas Doak Edington Diary

Abstract

This collection consists of a typed copy of Thomas Doak Edington's diary which he kept while serving as a Captain in Company A of the 6th Tennessee Volunteer Infantry (USA) during the Civil War. In it, he discuses his unit's movements, camp life, his health, battles, the weather, foraging for food and supplies, drills, pickets, and administrative tasks. This transcript also includes a forward by John F. Edington and a list of the members of Company A still living as of November 15, 1917.

Thomas N. Skelton Certificate of Disability

Abstract This certificate of disability for discharge from the Army of the Confederate States of America verifies that Thomas N. Skelton is unable to perform the duties of a soldier in the 27th Tennessee Infantry Regiment. He was examined by Army Surgeon A. Wright, who found that he had two separate wounds. Uriah Fleshman Letter

Uriah Fleshman of the 118th Ohio Infantry wrote this letter at Camp Soudon, Tennessee on October 25, 1863 just before the Battle of Resaca. He discusses recent skirmishes between his regiment and the nearby Confederate troops as well as the imminent battle.

Uriah Scott Letters

This collection consists of two letters written by Uriah Scott. He wrote one to his niece from Fort Pillow, Tennessee on February 27, 1863 and one to his mother from Union City, Tennessee on November 20, 1863. In these letters, Scott describes serving picket guard, mentions fighting in a small battle, and discusses family life. A short note on the back of the letter to his niece addressed to J. J. Weller discusses a business matter involving a black laborer.
