This collection consists of a hand drawn survey dated 1806 of lands held near Nashville, Tennessee by George Washington Campbell, a letter written by Campbell to a Mrs. Mary Doherty in 1832 concerning 640 acres of Campbell's land in Tennessee, and an undated stereograph of George Washington Campbell's Nashville, Tennessee mansion.

This collection consists of a letter from Union solider H. H. Thomas to William G. Brownlow in Knoxville, Tennessee. Thomas congratulates Brownlow on his nomination for governor of Tennessee, praises him as a supporter of the Union, and asks for a position in his administration.

H. L. Bedford's memoir provides a detailed account of the placement and use of Confederate artillery at Fort Donelson. The memoir contradicts Union reports included in the Official Records and rehabilitates the reputation of Confederate troops and commanders at the fort.

The collection contains a three page letter, dated April 16, 1863, written by General Mason Brayman, during the Civil War. The letter is in regards to General Brayman's orders against spies and guerrillas in West Tennessee. "All entering the lines must report to Provost Marshall, all trading permits are revoked, all persons not in the service of the U.S. wearing any part of the uniform, will be treated as spies and guerrillas..."

Henry Bechtel of Company E of the 22nd Ohio Infantry wrote this letter to his parents on June 5, 1863 from camp on Haines Bluff in Mississippi. He mentions having recently left Jackson, Tennessee, and traveled through Memphis before approaching Vicksburg, Mississippi.

The Henry Cherry Letters, 1864-1865, contain nine letters from Cherry, a Chaplain with the 10th Michigan Cavalry in the Civil War, to Amos Gould of Owosso, Mich., describing both military and civilian life in the Union Army during the Civil War. The majority of these letters were written from Knoxville, Tenn.

This collection contains a letter from Henry N. Dodge, a prominent dentist and author of Morristown, N.J., to Reverend Joseph F. Folsom in Newark, N.J., dated Feb. 14, 1926. The letter regards an article in the Historical Society Quarterly and a request for more copies. There is also an article on the death of Dr. Dodge in 1937.
