Abstract

This collection consists primarily of the political records of William Robert Anderson, a U.S. Congressman (1964-1972) from the Sixth District of Tennessee. Materials from his unsuccessful bid for re-election in 1972 are included. The collection also contains a considerable amount of material from Anderson's service on the Jimmy Carter Presidential campaign (1976) and various personal records from the 1970s and 1980s.

Abstract This collection contains a letter from William R. Brown of Nashville to Jesse Abernathy, Esq. of Pulaski, Tennessee, dated December 11, 1837. In the letter, Brown relays several points of political information about the state of Tennessee and the United States, such as 6 million dollars to be proposed for self-improvement, the foundation of a state bank, Henry Clay’s announcement as the Whig candidate for the presidency, and President Jackson’s writings and visits. Willie Blount Letter

Abstract

Tennessee Governor Willie Blount wrote this letter to Henry Newman, Jr. in Boston on December 10, 1811. In it, he expresses his hope that the United States will teach the indigenous people on the Wabash and their [foreign] aiders and abetters, that we are not only united but determined to be free and independent of all nations. He also discusses family and personal business, including Judge Hugh L. White and his family.
