This collection includes several letters penned by Omar L. Ash, mainly to his mother and Lela Ann, during his World War II service. Other letters included are addressed from Ash's commanders.

In this letter to his sister Hattie (postmarked Trinne, Tennessee), Orlando Geer describes combat that his unit has seen recently and tells of frustrations caused by Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest. According to Geer, ... "the Rebel Gen. Forrest has been very troublesome driving in our calvary picketts and now and then coming right up under our nose and picking up horses and picketts."

Orlando C. Geer wrote this letter to his sister Hattie from camp on the Elk River in Tennessee on July 15, 1863. In it, he discusses his unit's activities from June 24 to July 15, 1863, including their participation in a battle and camp life.

Ten of the letters are from James Thomas, and the others were written by John Williams, Daniel Thomas, and John T. Jones. Several of the letters describe the siege of Vicksburg and other battles. This collection consists of an address book, correspondence, enlistment and honorable discharge records, photographs, press clippings, and a promotion list from Walter M. Higgs' service in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. Higgs served in the Pacific Theater as part of the 17th Bomber Squadron 27th Bombardment Group and was a POW in Japan.
