William Burden Letter to Jacob Peck

Abstract

This collection features a letter from William Burden in White County, Tennessee to his cousin Jacob Peck in Stanton, Virginia. The letter is dated July 16, 1808 and concerns the death of Burden's grandfather and the managing of his estate by both Burden and Peck via the power of attorney.

William Butler Yeats Broadsides

Overview

This collection includes 14 broadsides printed between 1935 and 1937 which include poetry, music, and illustrations. The series of broadsides was edited by W. B. Yeats (alongside other editors such as F. R. Higgins and Dorothy Wellesley) and was printed at Cuala Press in Dublin. Additionally the collection contains playbills from the Abbey Theatre from 1949; a print of a drawing of J. M. Synge, and some correspondence.

This collection is a single letter written by William C. Newell of Morristown, Tennessee, to B. R. Loxley of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on October 22, 1842. Newell inquires about purchasing Haven's Chart on the Subject of Baptism and notes that many people in the area would be interested in purchasing the charts after having once seen them.

This collection consists of a letter dated March 3, 1848 from General William Conner to President James Polk, written from Brownsville, Tennessee. Abstract

This collection is composed of a letter that William Cosgrove of the 1st Ohio Light Artillery Regiment, Battery G, wrote to his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Bowers, in Mount Vernon (Knox County) Ohio from Nashville, Tennessee on January 31, 1864. He writes of his cousin Charles's death in Memphis and his own battery's move to Nashville. Also, he speaks of conditions in camp, including a recent outbreak of smallpox and his personal troubles with rheumatism.

This collection is an album of World War II photographs taken by William D. Cotton. He was stationed in Iran as part of the Persian Gulf Command from 1943-1945. The photographs document his tour in Iran as well as travels to surrounding areas including Iraq and Palestine. Along with photos of his fellow officers, there are depictions of local culture, carnivals, and trips he took with friends and colleagues.
