In this March 23, 1866 letter to the Hon. P. Chamberlain, Esq. in Knoxville, Tennessee, Horace Maynard describes the need for workers in East Tennessee. He states the great immediate want is product in labor and notes that workers are highly respected in the area, differing somewhat from the rest of the state and very wide from the general south.
