Abstract This collection includes a letter to Sarah E. M. McClung in Huntsville, Alabama, from her friend F. Taylor, a widow staying in Yorkville, dated October 1827. It also includes three receipts, one signed by Daniel Mitchell on November 9, 1819 for $9 paid by J. W. McClung for keeping house; one signed by Rufin Morgan on November 26, 1821 for $116.57 from the lawsuit of James Gillespie; and one signed by Sarah A. H. White on December 9, 1847 for $50 from Ruffin Coleman for business with her...

Sgt. William A. Smith Letter to J. O. Jones

Abstract

A letter was written by Sgt. William A. Smith, Co. B 71 Ind. 6th Cav., on October 5, 1863. He talks about Union occupation north of Knoxville, TN and the increased price of goods and foods in the Confederate states as oppsosed to the Union. He also writes about a brigade of women marching and carrying the U.S. flag. The letter was submitted to Mr. J. O. Jones, postmaster of Terre Haute, Indiana, in hopes that he could get it published in the local newspaper.

This collection consists of an address book, correspondence, enlistment and honorable discharge records, photographs, press clippings, and a promotion list from Walter M. Higgs' service in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. Higgs served in the Pacific Theater as part of the 17th Bomber Squadron 27th Bombardment Group and was a POW in Japan.
