Abstract

This collection consists of a Thompson brother’s photograph album, a clay-framed Thompson brother’s photograph of a lookout point in the Great Smoky Mountains, and a print of a photograph of Bald River Falls in Tellico Plains, Tennessee taken by one of the Thompson brothers.

W. C. Cochran Photographs of the Great Smoky Mountains

Abstract

W. C. Cochran took these 89 photographs during August and September of 1886. The majority of the images depict areas that were later incorporated into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park including Chilhowee Range, Nebo Mountain, and Miller's Cove.

William Derris Slide Collection

Abstract

The Derris Slide Collection is solely composed of approximately 4400 slides from the 1940's thru the 1960's of the Great Smoky Mountains region of Tennessee. Mr. William Derris was an amateur photographer and owner of the Derris Motel (later the Laughing Horse Inn) in Townsend, Tennessee, which he photographed at length and used the slides of those photographs in a slide show for the entertainment of his Inn's numerous and varied guests.
