Nashville & Knoxville Railroad Prospectus, circa 1890
This collection consists of a five-page typed prospectus describing the railroad set to be completed by May 1, 1890, extending from Lebanon to Cookeville, Tennessee. When finished the line would connect Nashville and Knoxville. Inluded in the proposal is a chemical analysis of Tennessee block coal that was done September 25, 1884, in Newcastle, Pennsylvania, by the Crawford Iron and Steel company. This proposal explains what materials were used for the track, current and future branches, and financial details. Arguments in favor of the railroad on the analysis of Tennessee coal and its economic significance. A handwritten diagram of the railroad stops from Nashville to Glen Alice (Roane County) is also included at the end of the report.
