Scope and Contents Note From the Collection: This collection consists of photographs depicting Hales Bar Dam in Guild (Haletown), Marion County, Tennessee, during construction. Scope and Contents Note From the Collection: This collection consists of a five-page typed prospectus describing the railroad set to be completed by May 1, 1890, extending from Lebanon to Cookeville, Tennessee. When finished the line would connect Nashville and Knoxville. Inluded in the proposal is a chemical analysis of Tennessee block coal that was done September 25, 1884, in Newcastle, Pennsylvania, by the Crawford Iron and Steel company. Scope and Contents Note From the Collection:

This collection consists of a handwritten letter from Mrs. Robert L. Dickerson to Professor Richard B. Davis briefly describing her family history, mostly her grandfather and his family. She describes the area near Shiloh, Tenn., where her grandfather and his brothers had to leave during the Battle of Shiloh in the Civil War. She also mentions that she can trace her family history to Williamsburg, Virginia, but does not include any dates. The letter covers two pages.

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection: Papers relating to "The Last Political Conversation of Andrew Johnson," a document typed most likely in the 1920s by Captain McElwee, who either typed it himself or dictated it. The document, rediscovered in 1977, describes an 1875 conversation with Andrew Johnson on a train out of Knoxville, Tennessee, shortly before Johnson's death. The discussion that took place was significant in detailing parts of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln ten years earlier.A...
