I. C. Brown Day Book, 1861 August 1-1876 September
This collecton contains a small ledger with handwritten records of visits and medical care by I. C. Brown who worked as a physician for the early years of his career in Philadelphia, Tennessee. The ledger lists names, visit summaries and brief treament descriptions, and prices charged. Visits are listed by date, then the name of the person requesting treatment or possibly the head of household, followed in parentheses by the relation of the patient to the named person; for example, William Smith (wife). A number of entries list (negro), indicating either enslaved persons or possibly free people of color living within a household. There are several political newspaper clippings glued into the book, obscuring the records on those pages.
