Andrew Jackson Papers, 1818 April 1-September 21
This collection consists primarily of a list of payments, dated September 21, 1818, made on Andrew Jackson's plantation at Melton's Bluff, Alabama. The first seven entries are written by Richard Massey (the plantation's overseer); the remainder of the list is written in Jackson's hand. Also included are five manuscript receipts from Melton's Bluff dating from April 1 to September 21, 1818. These items describe payments (possibly made to enslaved individuals) for such tasks as picking out cotton and weaving cloth.
