The 1950s correspondence documents Wilma Dykeman and James R. Stokely Jr.’s budding writing careers, with letters congratulating them on their first successful works: her The French Broad (1955) and his poetry published in The Atlantic Monthly and The Nation. The correspondence later describes the researching, writing, publishing, and promoting processes for their collaborative work Neither Black Nor White (1957). Other highlights in this subseries include letters describing how the two authors juggled raising two small children – their second child, James R.
