This collection includes three letters by soldier John Shanely dated between April and July 1862. Each of the handwritten letters are four pages. The locations addressed include Barbourville, Kentucky; Camp Patton, North Carolina; and Camp Virginia. The subject of the letters include Shanely's observations and the development of the Battle of Cumberland Gap.
