George Laubach letter, envelope, photograph, and partial transcript, 1865 April 5
This collection contains a letter, dated April 5, 1865, from Spring Camp (close to Knoxville, Tenn.), from George Laubach of the 10th Michigan Cavalry to Mariette Hutchins in Michigan. In the letter, Laubach discusses news from home, including that he heard Mariette had taken a teaching position. He also describes his surroundings along the Holston River at Spring Camp, Tennessee. He writes that soldiering agrees with him. He adds that he "has not seen a Tennessee Woman yet that can talk plain as a child 4 months old they don't appear to know anything and you may rely upon it that I for one don't fall in love with a Tennessee Woman."
Collection also contains a photocopy Mariette's photograph and a partial transcript of the letter.
