 File — Box: 1, Folder: 1

some 2 weeks since there [sic] fell a very uncommon shower near Lebanon, Wilson County consisting as is supposed of Blood & putrid flesh its fall was 1/2 mile in length and several hundred yards wide there was much talk on the subject Professor Troust of Nashville visited the place and collected and is endeavouring to ascertain its real component. On Saturday next the Gallatonians will receive the Honourable but Defeated Gov. Polk & Ex-president Jackson to partake of a splendid Dinner offered to their Honors & the Publick Generally the Whigs say that cursed Virginian Tyler who upstriped Clay & his party the Whigs of Tennessee are Raising some of their Honors on receiveing the veto message after the good citizens of Gallatin had retired to rest sneaked out between midnight & day & burnt their President in effigy at the S West corner of the square I saw his bones & ashes lying there the next day but the midnight murderers of their President are not yet known. Poor Tyler theres [sic] no one found in Gallatin of the melodious hard Cider Coon skin songster who have courage enough to collect his remains & bury them so they must be blown to the four winds of the Heaven as a terror to all Bank hunters. They also hung him in Nashville so farewell Tyler for the present.
