M. M. Torres Letters

 Collection
Identifier: MS-2765

  • Staff Only

This collection consists of three letters, dated March 6, June 10, and June 17, 1943. All three were written to Mrs. Ruth Johnson of Atlanta from PFC M. M. Torres, Jr., who was stationed in Smyrna, Tenn., with the 47th Command Squadron during World War II. In the letters, Torres complains about his assignment and discusses routine actions.

The March 6 letter discusses changes in address abbreviations and Torres' regret at not having joined a particular outfit in which a close friend had recently been placed. Torres encourages Ruth not to worry about Jack, and he assures her he will write when he gets settled in his new position.

The June 10 letter, postmarked Washington, D.C., discusses the weather, plans for a trainride to Nashville, seeing Jack, and how Torres spends his days.

The June 17 letter tells of Torres' assignment to Savannah, Georgia, about which he is not happy. He mentions having enjoyed his visit with Ruth the previous two weekends and encourages her to continue to write while she is away in New York.
