This collection consists of correspondence and financial papers documenting Albion Tipton Blair of McMinn County, Tennessee between 1840 and 1884. These materials detail the goods and transactions of the general store he owned and the financial collapse of another one of his operations. In addition, the collection houses poetry written or copied by Blair's wife, Eliza Ann (Reynolds) Blair.

In addition, the collection houses poetry written or copied by Blair's wife, Eliza Ann (Reynolds) Blair.

Biographical/Historical Note

Albion Tipton Blair was born to Hugh and Rachel (Tipton) Blair on September 12, 1811. He married Eliza Ann Reynolds on May 21, 1846 and the couple had at least nine children. Blair owned a general store before the Civil War in McMinn County, Tennessee near what is today Etowah. He also owned an ironworks in Pigeon Forge, which was sold to pay for taxes. Albion Blair died on July 11, 1896, and Eliza followed on November 5, 1896.
