Mildred Simpson Scrapbook
This collection houses a scrapbook compiled by Mildred Simpson documenting her time at the University of Tennessee (1937-1940). It includes such memorabilia as invitations and programs for Greek sponsored events and university sponsored games, plays, and ceremonies, newspaper articles, photographs, and clippings from the society pages. Simpson also saved such novelties as restaurant napkins and menus, matchbooks, and candy wrappers. Loose materials found with the scrapbook have been placed at the end of the collection.

Abstract

Biographical/Historical Note
Mildred Hope Simpson was born on 17 October 1919 in Tennessee to Harry Edison and Lucille (Steele) Simpson. She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1937 and entered the University of Tennessee on 25 September 1937. She studied Home Economics but left school in 1940 without graduating. She married Benjamin Miller on 3 March 1942 and the couple had four children. Mildred S. Miller died on 16 May 1996 in Surprise, Arizona.
