Biographical/Historical Note
James D. Hoskins Library was named after UT President James Dickason Hoskins (1870-1960), who served from 1934 to 1946. Originally known as the Central Library, Hoskins replaced the Carnegie Library as the University's Main Library in 1931. After John C. Hodges Undergraduate Library was constructed in 1969, Hoskins became the Graduate Library. It remained in this role until Hodges became the Main Library in 1987, and has since housed smaller branch library services like the UT Special Collections, Archives, and Map Libraries, as well as serving as temporary housing to various UT services like the Registrar's office, OIT Networking Services, and the Baker Center for Public Policy.
