Abstract

This collection houses a typescript copy of the document establishing the Maude Powell Student's Aid Fund at the University of Tennessee. The fund was created using $5,000 from Maude Powell's estate by her mother, Sarah (Drake) Powell, and sister and brother-in-law, Lillian and James Allen Smith.

Biographical/Historical Note

Maude Powell was born in Knoxville, Tennessee to Columbus and Sarah (Drake) Powell on April 15, 1857. She had at least one sister, Lillian, who married James Allen Smith in 1878. Maude Powell died in Knoxville in 1903 and is buried in the Old Gray Cemetery.

Mrs. James Maynard donated this collection to the University of Tennessee Archives on May 18, 1926.
