Abstract
This collection houses materials created and gathered for the U. S. Bicentennial (1976).
Biographical/Historical Note
President Ronald Reagan established the Commission on the Bicentennial of the U. S. Constitution in 1985. It designed a three phase celebration of the Bicentennial: Phase I focused on the framing and signing of the document (1985-1987), Phase II recalled the ratification of the document by the individual states (1988), and Phase III honored the organization of the American government (1989). The Commission encouraged local agencies to participate by publishing commemorative calendars, creating planning guides, and encouraging educational projects. The celebration officially ended in 1991.
