Abstract
This collection houses annual reports, papers, and other materials documenting the Dean of Women at the University of Tennessee.
Biographical/Historical Note
The University of Tennessee established the position of Dean of Women in 1897. This Dean was originally concerned with the women’s residence hall personnel and the welfare of women students. As the position evolved, responsibilities were defined in more areas, including individual counseling and conferences, group counseling and advising, student government and related activities, residence hall responsibilities, records and office procedures, committee participation, and public relations and University representation.
