Abstract
This collection houses the papers that John J. McDow created and maintained during his service as the Dean of Admissions and Records and as a Professor and Head of Agricultural Engineering.
Biographical/Historical Note
John Jett McDow was born to Robert Simpson and Lucy Ann (Cocke) McDow in Covington, Tennessee on January 6, 1925. He earned his BS (1948) from the University of Tennessee and his MS (1949) and PhD (1957) from Michigan State University. McDow began his professional career as an Instructor at Michigan State University (1949) and taught at Oklahoma State University (1949-1951) and Louisiana Polytechnic University (1951-1962) before coming to the University of Tennessee as a Professor and Head of the Department of Biosystems Engineering in 1962. McDow became the Dean of Admissions and Records in 1973 and remained in that position until becoming a Professor of Agricultural Engineering in 1983. He retired from the University in 1992 and died in Knoxville on October 12, 2007.
McDow married Dorothy Virginia Glass (1927-2004) on December 22, 1946 and the couple had two children, Ronald Allan and Jane Virginia.
