Josiah Patty Land Grant
This document (dated October 14, 1818 and signed by Governor Joseph McMinn) describes a tract of land that the State of Tennessee granted to Josiah Patty on November 23, 1809. This tract measured 33 acres and 3 rods and was located south of the French Broad and Holston rivers. It later passed into the Gourley family, where it remained for several generations.

Biographical/Historical Note
Josiah West Patty was born to Jesse and Sally (West) Patty in Pittsylvania, Virginia on January 20, 1774. He migrated to Tennessee sometime prior to 1809 and married Elizabeth Rooker on May 25, 1809. The couple had eleven children: Raphael West, Nancy Rooker, Vernilia, Virginia Jane, William Rooker, Elizabeth Ann, Obed, Lucinda, Sarah Belle, Josiah Wilson, and Stephan J. Josiah Patty most likely died in Roane County, Tennessee in 1857.
