This collection consists of three copies of the panel discussion and drafts of the forward written for the 1969 Southern Literary Festival which was held at the University of Tennessee. The theme of the festival was The Writer and His Tradition and focused mainly on American Southern writers and literary scholars. The materials in this collection cover commentary from a panel discussion led by Robert Drake. The panel members were Cleanth Brooks, James Dickey, and Reynolds Price. The panel discussed Southern writers and their importance to the South.

Biographical/Historical Note
The Southern Literary Festival is an annual literary festival focused on providing space for undergraduate writers to hone their skills while also exposing them to successful Southern authors. The festival was founded in 1937 at Blue Mountain College.
