Jack Wayland Scrapbook
A single bound scrapbook of newspaper clippings put together by Jack Wayland between 1881 and 1919. Articles in the scrapbook originate from both national sources and those local to Knoxville, Tennessee. Subjects include mostly current events, particularly those related to war and world news. As the scrapbook is arranged mostly chronologically, many of the beginning articles discuss Civil War history within approximately fifty years of the war ending, including anniverseries of important events, tributes, reunions, and obituaries of (primarily Union) soldiers and prominent people of the time in Knoxville. Wayland scrapbooked many local events, pertaining to both the war and others, including maps, information about social gatherings, and election results. During World War I (1914-1918), newspaper articles announced news relating to its events and Knoxville citizens going overseas to fight.
