Biographical/Historical Note

Lawrence County, Tennessee, was created by an act of the Tennessee General Assembly on October 21, 1817, named after War of 1812 hero Captain James Lawrence. While first spanning a much larger area, much of the northern part of the county was designated for Lewis County, Tennessee, in 1843.
