This collection houses 46 volumes of cash books, day books, daily records, feed books, order books, and other records documenting the activities of the Pryor Brown Livery Stables and Transfer Company between 1883 and 1916.
Biographical/Historical Note
Pryor Brown was born February 26, 1849 in Tennessee. He became a successful businessman in Knoxville, operating a transfer company on Church Street. He married Mary Josephine Sullivan (1860-1928), and the couple had at least three children: Charles (b. 1885), John (b. 1887), and Arthur (b. 1890). Brown died August 12, 1936, and is buried in Knox County, Tennessee.
