This collection includes a land indenture dated March 24, 1824 signed by William Polk. The indenture is handwritten and is one page.
Biographical/Historical Note
Colonel William Polk was born July 9, 1758 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Polk was a North Carolina banker, educational administrator, and political leader. He was also a Continental officer in the American Revolutionary War and a survivor of the 1777-78 encampment at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. From 1806 to 1807, Polk was a member of the North Carolina Council of State. Polk died on Janaury 14, 1834 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
