Biographical/Historical Note
The Southern Railway was formally created in 1894 from a number of smaller railroad lines that ran across the southeastern United States. Southern Railway ran lines throughout Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi. In 1982, Southern Railway was placed under the control of the Norfolk Southern Corporation, and in 1990 it was renamed Norfolk Southern Railway.
