Spencer Jarnagin Letter
A single letter written on March 22, 1844, by Spencer Jarnagin in Washington City to W. H. Thompson, Esq. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania The letter details the account of Jarnagin receiving a letter from Thompson requiring a payment. Biographical/Historical Note
Spencer Jarnagin (1792-1853) was a United States Senator from Tennessee. A graduate of Greenville College, he studied and practiced law, then served in the Tennessee State Senate from 1833 to 1835. He was then elected to serve as United States Senator by the Whigs from 1843 to 1847. Jarnagin was not re-elected and returned to practicing law.
