Collection contains a report on the Nashville Traction Company, created by G. B. Howard & Co., Engineers. The report was presented February 13, 1915, and details all work done in the year 1914. The report describes routes, monthly expenses, outstanding contracts, estimated future costs, estimated costs of 1914 projects, types of construction, materials, orders, and photographs. Included are numerous maps of routes and eight photographs taken during construction. The manuscript is fifty-eight pages long and bound in a leather notebook. "Report on Nashville Traction Company" is engraved in gold text on the cover. In the back of the portfolio is a smaller notebook detailing specific information about track construction.

Biographical / Historical

Gerald Branch Howard (December 29, 1889-December 24, 1973) was a Nashville businessman and civil engineer. He owned G. B. Howard & Co. Engineers, which was involved in the construction of several Nashville transportation systems in the early- to mid-twentieth century. Howard graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1912 and went on to serve as the President of the Rock City Construction Company. Howard served in the 7th Army Engineering Corps in World War I and the Tennessee State Guard in World War II.
