Biographical/Historical Note
Septimus Douglas Cabaniss was born on December 18, 1815 in Madison County, Alabama to Charles and Lucy Cabaniss. He graduated from the University of Virginia before moving to Alabama to practice law. His most prominent case involved overseeing the Samuel Townsend estate. He married Virginia Shepherd on June 20, 1843, and they had several children. Cabaniss served in the Alabama State Legislature from 1861 to 1863 and died in 1889.
Martha Allen is most likely Martha P. W. (Cabaniss) Allen, who was born on December 1, 1797 in Madison County, Alabama. She married Drury Allen on January 21, 1818, and they had a daughter named Virginia R. Allen in 1824. Drury Allen died in 1840, and Martha Allen died in 1881.
