This collection contains research bibliographies, notes, newsclippings, and a historical account ,“The Splinter Fleet,” written by World War II veteran Joseph E. Kelly about his experience in the war.
Biographical/Historical Note
Joseph E. Kelly was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on May 10, 1926. His father died before he was born and his mother died when Kelly was five months old. He was raised by two aunts in Chicago, Illinois. Kelly enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard in 1942 when he was only 15. In February 1943, Kelly was honorably discharged for immaturity. In May 1943, Kelly enlisted in the U. S. Navy. Kelly died December 8, 1991, and is buried in Davidson County, Tennessee.
