Lumberman Andy Huff (1878-1949) built the original Mountain View Hotel in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, in 1916 to cater to loggers who were harvesting timber in the Great Smoky Mountains. He expanded the hotel in 1924 when tourists began flocking to the area. His son, Jack Huff, took over the hotel upon Andy Huff's death in 1949.
