Biographical / Historical

Alan Solomon was born May 16, 1933, in New York City, New York. After graduating with a Bachelor in Science degree in 1953 from Bucknell University, Solomon headed to Duke University School of Medicine to earn his doctorate in medicine in 1957. He did his residency in internal medicine at two different hospitals in New York between 1959 and 1962. He completed fellowships with the National Cancer Institute in 1962 and the Rockefeller Institute in 1965. Solomon first moved to Knoxville in 1966 to accept a position as Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Memorial Research Center. He took up other professorships at UT as he continued researching medicine, specifically cancer and amyloids. Later in life, Solomon dedicated time to developing his property and garden which spans across 23 acres named “God’s Answer to Our Prayers.”
