Biographical/Historical Note
Theora Jane Woods was born to Robert and Sarah Browne (West) Woods in Nashville, Tennessee on January 11, 1822. She was one of seven children, including Josephine Imogene (Woods) Branch, James Americus, Robert Fulton, Mary Robina (Woods) Armistead, Joseph Leonidas, and Julia Hannah (Woods) Foster. Theora Jane was educated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania before returning to Nashville and marrying Edward Smith Handy on January 20, 1842. She died on March 16, 1842, and was buried at Westwood. Her grave, along with other family members, was relocated to Mount Olivet Cemetery in 1908.
