Biographical/Historical Note
The Nashville and Florence Railroad Company was incorporated on February 24, 1879 for the purpose of constructing a rail line from Columbia, Tennessee to Florence, Alabama. It opened as far as the Alabama state line on November 26, 1880. On May 16, 1887, it was consolidated to become the Nashville, Florence, and Sheffield Railway Company, which finished construction to Florence and opened the rest of this line on June 16, 1888.
