Samuel Mayes Arnell wrote this manuscript, entitled The Fighting Parson: Biography of William Gannaway Brownlow, in 1903. It describes Brownlow's life from a pro-Union perspective with a particular emphasis on the Civil War and Brownlow's governorship during Reconstruction. The manuscript shows extensive editing.

This collection consists of two voter registration papers dated, June 29, 1865 and August 4, 1866 and one correspondence from the United States Marshal from May 21, 1877. The voter registration papers are acknowledgements that William Crutchfield had permission to vote in Hamilton County, Tennessee. The correspondence from the U.S. Marshal concerns the bankruptcy of Chas. H. Stanton estate in relation to William Crutchfield.

This collection consists of deliveries and receipts of Quartermaster Second Lieutenant Peter McNaughton made during the year 1865. Deliveries included horses, clothing, and artilleries of the United States Army during the Civil War. Many of the camps that received deliveries were located in Washington D.C.
