Scope and Contents Note From the Collection: The correspondence letter written on November 24 of 1864 by James Fowler Rusling (1834-1918) was sent to Captain Fletcher E. Marsh in the “F” Co. Michigan’s 19th Infantry, detailing the split rebel forces (numbering sixty) under General Hood as they crossed the Harpeth River during the Civil War in Beech Grove (Tennessee). Scope and Contents Note From the Collection: These July 1861 letters were written by Colonel Carrick W. Heiskell to his sister and niece. In the letter to his sister, Heiskell discusses his surroundings and experiences in the Cumberland Gap while serving in the 19th Tennessee Confederate Infantry. Boarding Bill for Eight Creek Indians, 1799 May 27

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection:

This bill documents the stay of eight Creek Indians in Nashville, TN on May 24, 1799. They were charged 33 1/2 cents each, which included the price of one gallon of whiskey during their boarding by William Maclin. The bill was addressed to the United States government by the Secretary of State for Tennessee (1796-1807) William Maclin, Sr. The document was signed by John B. Cross, J.C. Macline, Maclin T. Cross, Andrew Henry, and William Carvin.
