Howard Eisenacher Papers, 1943 November, 1997 March 7
This collection includes four black and white pictures of Eisenacher and the Marine 7th Regiment in New Guinea, circa November 1943. Howard is only shown in one, a group photo of 3rd squad. The others show 3rd platoon's N.C.O.'s and 1st and 2nd squad. The collection also contains a letter to Dr. Charles Johnson of the Center for the Study of War and Society about Eisenacher's experiences in the Marines.
William A. Austin Papers, 2007
William Austin's memoir A Proud Marine: World War II Veteran Bunk Austin documents his experiences as a Marine beginning with his enlistment on August 31, 1934. The manuscript includes photographs, military records, correspondence, and brief descriptions of the main events of Austin’s service including his participation in battles on Saipan and Tinian. Also included are candid photographs of daily military life and personal remembrances.
Ira H. Hayes Memoir, undated
This collection contains a photocopy of Ira Hayes' handwritten manuscript documenting his World War II experiences, particularly the assault on Iwo Jima. In addition to describing intelligence and combat preparation for the operation, Hayes also includes the anecdotes and personal stories of his peers during the campaign. The document includes several inserts written by other soldiers as well as transcribed letters.
