Henry Brown Collection
This is a collection of over fifty civil war letters written by Harry Brown to his wife from August 1861 through September 1862.
James R. Delaunay Prisoner of War Autograph Booklet
James R. Delaunay collected these autographs from fellow prisoners of war while he was incarcerated in Johnson's Island, Ohio from December of 1864 to June of 1865. This item is a transcription of the original booklet, which was then in the possession of the Collierville Herald.
John Watkins Papers
This collection consists primarily of letters that John Watkins, then serving with the 19th Ohio Light Artillery, wrote to his fiancee, Sarah Probert, and other family members. In them, he discusses his experiences in the Civil War, including his unit's participation in the East Tennessee Campaign and the Battle of Fort Sanders. Also included are family diaries, photographs, and account books.
Josiah Reed Diary, Letter, and Sermon
This collection houses a diary documenting Josiah Reed's service in the Civil War, a letter requesting an additional bounty for his service, and a sermon that was delivered at his burial.
Lide Bostwick Letter
In this letter, Lide Bostwick discusses life on the northern home front during the Civil War. She mentions illnesses and deaths in the family (including the death of her brother Tip at the Battle of Stones River), her concerns for family and friends in the military, and the harm that "northern traitors" are causing.
Sarah Probert Watkins/Probert Family Papers
The bulk of this collection houses correspondence between Sarah (Probert) Watkins and family and friends living in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois between 1865 and 1905. Other letters were written to and from George Probert and other members of the Probert family.
William A. Huddard Papers
This is a collection of sixty-one letters written by William A. Huddard to his father during the Civil War. The letters begin in June 1861 and end in April 1864. Huddard’s letters to his father describe many aspects of life in the western armies during the war. He describes battles, camp life, enemy combatants, the environment, furloughs, his health, rumors, and weather.
William Cosgrove Letter
This collection is composed of a letter that William Cosgrove of the 1st Ohio Light Artillery Regiment, Battery G, wrote to his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Bowers, in Mount Vernon (Knox County) Ohio from Nashville, Tennessee on January 31, 1864. He writes of his cousin Charles's death in Memphis and his own battery's move to Nashville. Also, he speaks of conditions in camp, including a recent outbreak of smallpox and his personal troubles with rheumatism.
William G. Brownlow Letter
In this letter, Parson Brownlow reports that he has just returned to Cincinnati (where he lived while in exile from East Tennessee) from Louisville and Frankfort. He also mentions that he has been sick with a bilious attack and states that he has received about twenty tickets in response to our letters.
